In the 1830s, land owners from Georgia and Alabama had started to visit the beach areas of Florida during the summer months. In 1909, a popular area was officially called Panama City. In the 1920s the land boom of Florida began, and more people began to settle in the area. Over time the city's population grew and now Panama City is a bustling part of the state of Florida. The city has over 27 miles of gorgeous beaches, and its motto is "Live. Work. Play." While visiting Panama City, there are tons of wonderful and exciting things to do. For example, be sure to check out the Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum which has some amazing exhibits and is housed inside a huge shipwrecked vessel. There are all kinds of interesting things to discover and learn here. Gulf World is another wonderful place to visit. This attraction has wonderful marine life including dolphins and sea lions. It's a great place for kids of all ages to get up close and personal with these amazing creatures, and to learn and have fun at the same time. For an extreme adventure, don't miss the Sea Dragon Pirate Cruise. You'll board on a large pirate ship and set sail into the beautiful waters of Panama Beach on a two hour cruise with dolphin sightings and music. It's a must see for the adventurous family! You can also try out a ride on an airboat at the Airboat Adventures Park where you can cruise on the swamp waters at fast speeds and check out the amazing landscape of the Florida Everglades.
Of course, since you're at the beach, you have to try some of the local seafood. Fortunately there's a great deal of wonderful restaurants in the Panama City area. Captain Anderson's Restaurant and Waterfront Market has some of the freshest seafood available, all prepared right there on location, just the way you want it.
